Random Thoughts of the Week

Wow, I haven’t ranted in a while.  That’s not good.  To make up for it, I’ve found this:

It’s a short film called Terminus about a giant stone man that annoys a more normal, less-stone man. It’s made by one of the co-writers of District 9. It’s special. Apparently it’s being made into a feature as well. Hot damn. I can’t wait for that.

I love that CGI has totally opened up and is being used in short films like this. Ten years ago, that level of special effects could only be seen in features, and it was damn expensive. Now, anyone can do it. This is the kind weird, off-beatly hilarious short film that I wanted to make in college in film school, but every time we tried to make something like this, we’d either get laughed at, told it was impossible, or people would ask us so many questions that the entire point of our work was compromised.

So here’s some random thoughts for the week:

  • I love and hate cats.  When you find a cool, friendly cat, it’s like the coolest thing.  Like a neat surprise.  I think that’s because most cats are assholes, so a nice cat is against the grain.  It’s a rebel.  I can respect that.  Doesn’t make me think any higher of their species, but I can respect that.
  • China is just stupid.  I understand that their country has an extreme balancing act they have to play with their own populous.  They can’t have a free, happy country because every time they do that, people get pissed off and throw a revolution.  And I understand (kind of) their antagonism against the Dalai Lama (who, seriously, is a righteous dude… not sure how anyone could argue he’s not).  But making threats against the US like we’re they’re little brother is kind of a silly move.  Like, annoying.  Like a mosquito.  If you want to be the economic power-house you act like you are, put your adult-pants on and stop buzzing in our ear.
  • I think Doctor Who is dumb, and almost impossible to translate from whatever weird British world it comes from into my American brain.  Is it a comedy?  Is it a drama?  Do I take this seriously?

  • I like science fiction.  But that… that’s just too British.
  • Then again, my country invented this:

  • I’m not the target audience for this “Lady Gaga” creature.  I hate fashionista people.  You know.  People that cuts lamps into funny shapes, put the lamps on their heads, trot down runways, and then tell people their artists or some crap for cutting up lamps.  I also hate bad music.  So I’m not the target audience for… whatever the hell this creature is.
  • And it is a creature.
